The EM5 Fly Foundation was created to honor the short life and big heart of 15 year-old Evan Melau, who was taken from this earthly world way too soon. The mission of our foundation is simple: help others, create joy. Or as Evan would say, "spread it around!" We do this by raising funds that assist families, children, teenagers and student athletes in the form of events, monetary donations, gift cards, holiday gift baskets, scholarships, and more.
Since 2020, we have hosted 2 professionally run baseball tournaments, holiday gift drives, Evan's Eggscellent events and multiple other programs to spread joy and raise funds for local students and families. We are so grateful for the on-going support of the community, especially Downers Grove South High School, Cozzi Corner, Cellar 406, Rybell's Blow Dry Bar and many other individuals and organizations.
We've raised and donated more than $40,000 in Evan's memory including:
Christmas was one of Evan's favorite holidays, and friends of the Melau family want to make sure his spirit shines through by helping others during this time of giving. "Evan's Elves" is a group of parents and teenagers who raise funds in December, mainly through an online giftcard drive. Due to the generous donations of the community, the Elves deliver thousands of dollars worth of gift cards and actual presents to local area families in need.
Since 2021, Evan's Elves has raised and donated $15,000 in giftcards, food and gifts to spread holiday cheer to dozens of local students and families.
Thank you so much for your donations & participation!
Evan loved sports, and was well-known as a tenacious baseball player, #5. Founded in 2020, the EM5 Fly High baseball tournament is a competitive tourney for 15U, 16U and 17U players in the Western Suburbs of Chicago. This tourney has drawn the best baseball talent to compete from around the Western Suburbs of Chicago, with each game attracting hundreds of spectators young and old alike.
The tournament brought purpose and connection to Evan's friends, teammates and family members, with plenty of opportunities to volunteer, play, socialize, hug, bond and of course watch some really aweseome baseball. EM5 championship games always had fans standing up on their feet to cheer on their favorite teams. We're on hiatus now, but our #EM5 tourney memories will live on in our hearts forever.
Ian’s Place, located in Clarendon Hills, Illinois, exists to help bereaved parents find a place for comfort and healing in a Christian environment. Their mission is to support newly bereaved parents as well as those who have grieved the loss of a child for years.
